The Hype House Vs The Sway House: Here's What You Need To Know
The TikTok generation is the latest to fall into the collab house trend set by Olde Time content creators like the Vlog Squad, Clout House, and Team Ten. By living together, these influencers collaborate around the clock to produce a steady stream of content, hopefully satiating audiences addicted to TikTok's infinite scroll. The Hype House and The Sway House are home to some of the biggest influencers of today, and their star power doesn't show any signs of wavering any time soon. Here's everything you need to know about Hype House and Sway House in order to pick a side.
Quinton Griggs
In Jan. 2020, before any signs of the pandemic, a group of young, male social media personalities came together to form Sway House, a Los Angeles creative collective that consisted of nine members. Each of the members had gained a significant following on TikTok and dedicated their time to churning out content on the platform. News of the upcoming reality series comes just days after PEOPLE confirmed that Hall and fellow social media star Addison Rae Easterling had split again. The series will start on March 29, 2021, and will be available to watch on IGTV as well as Facebook Watch. The announcement also specifies that there’ll be “three drops a week,” meaning plenty of content for fans who are looking forward to getting a better glimpse into the lives of these stars.
Josh Richards
In a recent episode of the BFFs podcast with Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards even said that the group has been so busy with filming content, particularly with the reality show, that they often don’t get the chance to talk off-camera. I guess it's successful that he had a Netflix show, but no one in that Netflix show was in the main Hype House. It's like me trying to revamp the Sway House, recruiting new sway boys, and then creating more from there. Josh earns up to $100,000 from ad revenue on his vlogs; he also has a beverage company and made $1.5 million between summer 2019 and summer 2020.
Jaden Hossler
After regaining access to their phones, Hall and Hossler sent pithy tweets to update concerned fans. But the tweets, along with several images from the trip, were quickly wiped from the internet. The boys are generally considered to be sweet and mom-friendly, but they are undeniably gaining a reputation for over-the-top, rockstar antics. In April, Richards was forced to apologize for flashing fans during an Instagram live stream. As of Feb. 25, videos posted to The Hype House TikTok account have amassed over 220 million likes and Hype House members have over a 150 million followers combined. Adding fuel to the fire, several members of the Sway House – including Bryce Hall, Blake Gray, Josh Richards, Noah Beck and Quinton Griggs – removed associations to Sway from their social media bios.
Blake Gray
Alex, 19, has moved into the purple house to be part of a new collab house called Girls in the Valley. Call it the boy-band model but for Gen Z, where stars leverage each other’s burgeoning fame against the backdrop of multimillion-dollar homes. It is February in Sherman Oaks, a suburban neighborhood in California’s San Fernando Valley now home to a thriving cottage industry of beautiful young people trying to get famous online. But you see the same person’s face on your phone enough times and you start to care about them. In these so-called “collab houses”—Hype House, Clubhouse, and Drip Crib among them— content creators and aspiring social media stars join forces to combine and collect as many eyeballs as possible. Barely a month earlier, Alex was part of a different house, one that no longer exists because its manager allegedly withheld money from and mistreated its members.
“Influencer,” of course, remains high among the most coveted professions for teenagers today. From afar their lives look lush and full, surrounded by beautiful people in beautiful places, simply because the job demands it. They are people whose career is curating their image online, mini brand ambassadors selling themselves. Out of frame are the hungry managers and fellow creators willing to sell them out at a moment’s notice.
Backed by a New York real estate developer named Amir Ben-Yohanan, the company behind the Clubhouse ultimately wanted to be something akin to a Soho House but for influencers, where membership would rotate like artists in residence. By May it had invested $3 million into the brand, now among the most visibly flashy and professional-seeming creator collectives operating today. LA is the obvious choice for anyone considering a career in entertainment, even more so if you’re young and like to party. In the Before Times, TikTok meetups, where friends and strangers guest star in one another’s videos, were daily occurrences, organized in group chats or on Instagram Stories in public places like the Santa Monica Pier.
TikTok's Sway House Is Officially Over — But Its Message 'Will Never Die'
It trades at half the value it did in 2006, making it the only big American bank to fetch a valuation lower than its peak before the global financial crisis. Pick any measure and Citi is invariably dead last compared with its rivals. The firm has more staff than Bank of America, yet makes only a third of the profit.
He also has acting credits from starring in the television series, Attaway General and released his own merchandise which includes hoodies, sweatshirts, and tees. Popularly known as LuvAnthony, the 21 year old first gained popularity in 2016 on Instagram before kicking things off on TikTok with his lip-syncing and duet videos. He has acquired over 10 million followers on the video sharing platform. He has a YouTube channel but rarely posts on the platform, with just four photos since his debut in 2019. He began dating fellow TikTok star Avani Gregg in March of 2020.
Sway House’s oldest member, Griffin Johnson was born on Jan. 13, 1999 and grew to fame on TikTok with his viral comedy videos. He’s also known for his vlogging content which has earned him over 10 million followers and 500 million likes. Johnson is not only a TikTok star, he is also a nursing student at Indiana State University and has released several singles.
Behind its stars is a network of managers and newly formed talent companies ready to make money off them, and much like the TikTok celebrities they manage, the job duties are often nebulous. Gray was only an unofficial member of Sway House at first, but is still widely considered to be one of the house’s founding members. With almost 10 million followers on his TikTok account, Gray became a member sometime in June 2020. The 21 year old Texas native boasts 10 million followers on TikTok, and over 400 million likes, as well as over five million followers on Instagram. He has been active on social media since 2015 and has modeled for Ralph Lauren alongside his girlfriend Amelie Zilber who he has been dating since 2020.

“I was either homeless or Ari answered her phone that day,” she says. While the rest of us quarantine at home, influencers will lounge on pool floats, host meet-and-greets with fans, party together. Everyone in this world knows it can all go away at any moment; there are up-and-comers ready to take their place and shrinking marketing budgets with money concentrated at the very top of the slowly solidifying TikTok hierarchy. By summer a new threat will arise, as President Donald Trump orders the end of the platform as we know it.
